Fayyad Condemns Israeli Raid on TV Stations

RAMALLAH, February 29, 2012 (WAFA) – Prime Minister Salam Fayyad Wednesday condemned Israeli army pre-dawn raid on two local television stations in Ramallah, describing it as an act of “piracy.”
“The Israeli piracy and raids targeting Palestinian media institutions bring back to mind the Israeli actions in the beginning of the second Intifada when Israeli forces raided and sabotaged many institutions, including Palestine TV, Voice of Palestine radio and Watan TV,” Fayyad told reporters.
An army force accompanied by Israeli Ministry of Telecommunication staff raided Watan TV and Al-Quds Educational Television in Ramallah and seized their transmitting and broadcasting equipment and computers.
Fayyad stressed that the Palestinian response should entail immediate rebroadcast and continuation of work in both institutions, adding that the Israeli raids of PA territory, including continuous killing and arrests of Palestinians, aim to undermine the PA and are completely rejected.
The prime minister held the International Quartet responsible for the Israeli violations that blatantly breach the international law and the Israeli obligations in accordance to signed agreements.
“All that shows the Quartet’s stark failure and incompetence  to uphold its responsibility,” added Fayyad.
