Tito told PNN, during her visit to Bethlehem with the coordination of the American consul in Jerusalem, “Holy Land Trust” institution and the Holy Bible College hosted Tutu, who visited Palestine to share the experience of her Nation in South Africa in General and her personal experience in particular and to exchange experiences and experiments with Palestinians.
She also said that she’s thrilled and pleased to meet Palestinians and exchange experiences and learn from their suffering under the Israeli occupation and apartheid regime.
Tutu also said that she enjoyed hearing the experiences that Palestinian went through and she saw the similarity between the suffering of the two Nations, Palestinians and South Africa in relation to the Apartheid.
Tutu spoke about many forms of oppression, persecution and violence that her country and people experienced, especially the issue of rape. She said that women have been considered an important factor in the victory despite attempts by the apartheid regime to humiliate them through sexual assault, but they were factors which assisted in strengthening their community and remained a symbol of steadfastness in facing the system of oppression and apartheid.
Tutu said that the real option that the Palestinians and people in South Africa should face is the determination and will to continue, despite financial and psychological barriers, and work to cease the oppression, injustice and to work to reinforce real and necessary reconciliation.
Tutu expressed her pleasure and happiness to visit Palestine and said, “It is an honor for me to be here in Palestine.”
Sami Awad, director of the “Holy Land Trust” said that Naomi Tutu is the daughter of the fighter in South Africa who is well known of being the greatest opponent of apartheid in South Africa.
Awad said that Tutu’s being in Palestine is a matter of necessity, especially in these times, to clarify that Palestinians are not just living under occupation, but also under a cruel apartheid regime.
Awad said that Tutu’s visit to Palestine is to support and stand by Palestinians against Israeli apartheid. In addition to, the voice of tutu as a daughter of a fighter is important, as it could send a message to all nations worldwide.
Awad also said that the main subject in Tutu’s lecture is the humanitarian unity that concentrated on the fact that all people are equal, there is no one Nation better than another, and she said that her experience showed that the discrimination regime based on differences between White and Black is similar to what Palestinians live and suffer by the Israeli apartheid.
Awad said that Palestinians are struggling for the freedom and independence to stop all kinds of Israeli oppression, injustice and apartheid.
