Elie Wiesel On Haaretz

By Gilad Atzmon

Elie Wiesel, the world’s most famous Holocaust survivor, the man who turned the Holocaust into a business career gave this week an interview to Haaretz.

This kosher ‘humanist’ whose interest in pain is confined to ‘one people only’ stated that he hopes that “the Mossad, which caught a man like Eichmann, will be able to catch Ahmadinejad and get him tried in an international court.”

This Zionist Elder must have forgotten that Eichmann wasn’t tried in an international court, he was actually sentenced to death by an Israeli court. And while Ahmadinejad travels freely around the world, it is Israeli mass murderers and war criminals who have to think twice before embarking on an international flight.

In the entire interview, neither Haaretz nor Wiesel referred to the Palestinian holocaust. Seemingly, both the Jewish media outlet and the Shoa merchant are concerned only with the suffering of one people.

Elie Wiesel, may be one of the  strongest examples of the banality of Zionist mind. He is concerned only with the primacy of Jewish suffering and has totally failed to transform the Holocaust into a universal message.

Wiesel is critical of Germany, German people and their culture. “We must not forget what civilized people once did. People raised on Kant, Fichte and Hegel. People who listened to Beethoven and read Schiller in the morning, and in the afternoon killed children and parents.”

But what about those people who don’t read Kant, Fichte and Hegel, but instead read the Old Testament and Wiesel’s Shoa literature? Do they not kill children and parents? Do they not engage in mass killings of innocent civilians pouring white phosphorous on UNRA shelters? Yes, they do – and for more than six decades, slightly longer than Wiesel’s Shoa.

Jew-Ish

By Gilad Atzmon

Just as we were learning about ‘anti’ Zionist  Mondoweiss’ decision to revise its comment policy to exclude discussion of  the true nature of the Jewish State, the openly pro Zionist Haaretz paper published a news item about the Israeli poet, singer songwriter Zeev Tene.

Tene’s new song is called ‘Jew-Ish’ and as you may guess, is actually very critical of the Jew, Jewishness, The Jewish State and Jewish Identity in general. On the pages of Haaretz, an Israeli paper, Tene tells the truth that Mondoweiss and other AZZ (Anti Zionists Zionists) are determined to suppress.

Is it a coincidence that our leading ‘pro’-Palestinian Jews are so determined to stifle any critical discourse to do with the Jewish State and Jewish identity? Not at all. Philip Weiss, the founder of the ‘progressive’ Jewish website admitted to me in an interview that Jewish-self interests are at the centre of his activism. “I believe all people act out of self-interest. And Jews who define themselves at some level as Jews — like myself for instance — are concerned with a Jewish self-interest. Which in my case is: an end to Zionism,” said Weiss.

Unlike Philip Weiss, Zeev Tene, is a proud self-hater. He calls a spade a spade, he says what he means and he means what he says.

Watch and read Zeev Tene new poem.

Jew ish! by Zeev Tene

How do you live with it
How do you remain indifferent
You lock an entire nation behind a fence
Just because it wants from you to be free
You stand and sing about being free
Yet, you forgets what humanity is
You forget that only yesterday you were the Other
You forget that just yesterday it was you there behind the fence
Jew ish!
How do you live with it
How do you remain indifferent
You who were pushed down
The scent of your burnt flesh is still in the air
You’ve seen how in split second
A man can become a beast
Jew ish! Wake up!
It’s only yourself whom you lock behind the fence
Jew ish! Wake up!
It’s only yourself whom you lock behind a fence

Then They Came For Me

By Gilad Atzmon

First the Zionists came for the Palestinians, and I didn’t speak up, because I wasn’t a Palestinian.

Then the Neocons came for the Muslims, and I didn’t speak up, because I wasn’t a Muslim.

Then Electronic Abunimah,  ADL, Mondoweiss,  Israeli Hasbara and J Street  came for the activists and I didn’t speak up, because I wasn’t an activist.

Then they came for me, but they were too late, because by that time everyone had read The Wandering Who, grasped what was going on and stood up for me.

Prof' William A. Cook: Tearing the Veil From Israel’s Civility-a book review

The following is a very a deep and thoughtful reading of Gilad Atzmon’s work by William A. Cook

Gilad Atzmon’s insight into the organism created by the Zionist movement in his book, The Wandering Who, is explosive; it tears the veil off of Israel’s apparent civility, its apparent friendship with the United States, and its expressed solicitude for western powers—Britain, Canada, Australia, France and Germany—exposing behind the veil, the assassin ready to slay any and all that interfere with its tribally focused ends. In February of this year, Atzmon characterized Islam and Judaism as tribally oriented belief systems rooted not in “enlightened individualism,” but rather in “…the survival of the extended family.” These belief systems have nothing to do with personal liberties or personal rights; they have to do with securing the realm of their respective “ways of life.” But unlike tribalism in Islam, tribalism in Judaism “can never live in peace with humanism and universalism” (4). “Both religions stand as systems that provide thorough answers in terms of spiritual, civil, cultural and day to day matters.” In this regard, “…both Islam and Judaism are more than just religions: they convey an entire ‘way of life,’ and

The Wandering Who is a personal journey of a man born in Jerusalem, raised in the Jewish ‘way of life,’ infused with the myths of the founding of the Jewish state; “Supremacy was brewed into our soul, we gazed at the world through racist, chauvinistic binoculars. And we felt no shame about it either” (5). Inducted into the Israeli military during the 1980s he served in Lebanon, and, in his late teens, experienced an epiphany caused in good measure by careful listening to voices beyond the wall that encircled him in the ghetto that is the Israeli state. This epiphany forced a distinction in identity versus identifying, between self-reliance and obedient servant to an ideology, a distinction that recognized Jews as people, Judaism as a religion, and Jewishness, an ideology that determines identity politics and a resulting political discourse.

Gilad's New Book is available on Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk

What, then, characterizes a Jew? Atzmon distinguishes among those who follow the Judaic religion; those who regard themselves as a human being who happens to be of Jewish origin; and those who put their Jewishness over and above all other traits. Chaim Weizman, the first Israeli President and a Zionist, identified being a Jew as a ‘primary quality’ above citizenship, occupation, head of household, indeed “Jewishness becomes the key element and fundamental characteristic of one’s being.”

Vladimir Jabotinsky wrote “…the nucleus of his spiritual structure will always remain Jewish, because his blood, his body, his physical racial type are Jewish” (“A Letter on Autonomy,” 1904). It is this identifying principle that Atzmon sees as corrosive, not only to Judaism, but to the safety and security of the Jewish people, their friends and their neighbors. “…probably then and there I left Chosen-ness behind to become an ordinary human being” (6). “For me to be Jewish is, above all, to be preoccupied with overcoming injustice and thirsting for justice in the world, and that means being respectful toward other peoples regardless of their nationality or religion, and empathetic in the face of human suffering whoever and wherever victimization is encountered” (“On Jewish Identity,” 1/15/2011).

Significantly, Atzmon turns to the ancient tale of the wandering Jew to reap the complexities inherent in the contradictions that beset Judaism in today’s world: tribalism versus universalism, chosen-ness versus democratic equality, rule by defiance of law versus nations ruled by law, control of government by Zionist controlled ideology versus responsiveness to the voice of the citizenry, and tribalistic morality where morals are fabricated for political utilitarian ends versus the inalienable rights of all endowed by nature.

The legend’s primary symbolic value resides in its identification of ‘otherness,’ the unique concept of ‘chosen-ness,’ that separates the Jews from the rest of humanity resulting in an ideological and psychological isolation that becomes a strategic tool used by the Zionists and the Neo-Cons to manipulate the Jewish people and the formation of the Jewish state. Jabotinsky and Weizmann’s “primary quality” of Jewishness prevents assimilation, thus forcing the Jew to remain always an alien wherever he or she resides. Personal identification can only exist in the tribe, a virtual and absolute commitment to Jewishness, making possible the use of Jews around the world as "sayanims”  (assistants) to further the goals of the Jewish state (17). “The sayan is a person who would betray the nation of which he is a citizen out of devotion to a notion of a clannish brotherhood” (17).
There are thousands of sayanim around the world. In London alone, there are about 2,000 who are active, and another 5,000 on the list. They fulfill many different roles. A car sayan…running a rental agency, could help the Mossad rent a car without having to complete the usual documentation. … a bank sayan could get you money if you needed it in the middle of the night, a doctor sayan would treat a bullet wound without reporting it to the police…The idea is to have a pool of people available when needed who can provide services but will keep quiet about them out of loyalty to the cause (17).
“In Zionist eyes Jewishness is an international network operation…to be a Jew is a deep commitment that goes far beyond any legal or moral order” (19). Atzmon identifies a functioning organism controlled by Zionist ideology and Neo-Con sayanim in the United States that has yoked Israeli interests to those of the United States using a document titled the USA Defense Planning Guidance Report for fiscal years 1994-1999. “In the Middle East and the Persian Gulf, we seek to foster regional stability, deter aggression against our friends and interests in the region, protect U.S. nationals and property, and safeguard our access to international air and seaways and to the region’s oil. The United States is committed to the security of Israel and to maintaining the qualitative edge that is critical to Israel’s security.” (22). This manipulative strategy “transformed the Jewish tribal mode into a collective functioning system.” It also transformed “the American and British armies into a Zionist mission force” as Israel and the Neo-Cons manipulated the governments of the UK and the US to attack Israel’s enemies in Iraq while imposing sanctions on Syria and defending its occupation and oppression of the Palestinians and its wanton destruction of Lebanon in 2006 and Gaza in 2008-2009.

Atzmon illuminates the inner soul, or more correctly, the lack thereof, of the Israeli state as it has evolved from early Zionism to a politically astute merger of ancient Judaism with secular purposes to attain its goals. It is in this respect the abortive grandchild of Leo Strauss, a Professor and teacher of Paul Wolfowitz and the Neo-Cons who clustered about his determinist altar—Richard Perle (former Defense Policy Board Chairman), William Kristol (Chief Editor of the Weekly Standard), Gary Schmitt (Chairman and Director of the Project for the New American Century), Stephen Campone (Under-Secretary of Defense for Intelligence under Rumsfeld), Abram Shulsky (friend of Perle and head of Rumsfeld’s special intelligence unit sometimes characterized as the “Specious Planning Unit”), Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld who are connected through the PNAC (Project for the New American Century)—all “leaders” of course accepting without question a brand of determinism that controlled human life with some born to lead and the vast majority born to follow.

I had tracked the emergence of this cult that came to power in an article published in 2003, “Moral Insanity: the Cabal that Corrupts,” and offer two paragraphs that capture the consequences of this deception.
Since Strauss taught that nature’s determinism thrust the “wise few” into positions of leadership over the “vulgar many,” and since virtue is defined by the elite who rule, and since morality does not exist, and since justice is merely the interest of the stronger, and since the rule of the wise is absolute, authoritarian and unquestionable, and since religion is “the glue that holds society together,” using religion for political ends, like lying, deception, secrecy, and intimidation, is a good necessary to achieve the determined goals of the government. Manipulation of the “vulgar masses” becomes an end in itself and the distortion of words and concepts becomes the means to that end…
Only a Straussian Cultist would have the arrogance to create a National and International policy on behalf of 300 million people when they represented none of them. Two years later, a year after 9/11, this report became “The National Security Strategy Report of the United States of America,” a document that details how America will act, nationally and internationally, during the second Bush regime. Needless to say, few Americans ever saw the details of this report before it became policy—not the average American citizen nor their representatives in Congress nor the Senate. Yet we are the ones who must pay for the plans these men designed, be victims of the world’s censure as they carry out their designs, and fall prey to their restrictions on civil liberties imposed by this regime as “security measures.”
Atzmon’s analysis reveals strategies used by the Zionists to control their population: “Some marginal politicians seek to publically ‘shame’ their integrated brothers and sisters. This serves two purposes. First, it conveys a clear message that real assimilation is impossible…Second, it pushes the assimilated being towards collaboration with his old clan. ‘You will never escape who you are so you better be proud of it’” (34). But it does not stop there. The Zionist lobbies tell the assimilated Jew “You will never escape who you are so why not be proud of it and work with us.” Indeed, this very assertion undermines a moral foundation as it forces the American Jew to succumb to that “primary quality” of Jewish-ness above loyalty to his nation. “First they are Jews and only then are they humanists” (35).

Zionism, as Atzmon notes, has used Jewish ‘separatism’ and its resulting ‘insecurity in relations with his fellow beings’ to coerce obedience and commitment. This tactic has been characteristic of the Zionist power since the Mandate period. In the Introduction to The Plight of the Palestinians, I presented evidence of such coercion from the classified documents of the British Mandate Police, most especially the Hagana Oath that forced an allegiance to the Zionist High Command:

The Haganah Oath goes deeper than fear. In effect, it declares that an individual has turned his/her conscience over to the High Command thus accepting what is right and what is wrong as determined by that authority regardless of local, state or international law, indeed, regardless of the morals, values and traditions of Judaism. This commitment is forever, to death.
From the moment an individual takes the oath, they are committed to a life of secrecy and hence of disloyalty and betrayal to those they are most intimate with in their day to day life. Neither their actions nor their true identity is discernible to those with whom they interact regularly.
This is a life that encapsulates the necessity of lies, deceit, coercion, extortion, and obedience to a group that dictates the actions one must pursue; freedom no longer exists, self-direction no longer exists, loyalty to others no longer exists, indeed, friendship with others is compromised or impossible, one becomes the subject of that group, a veritable slave to their desires and wills. The mindset that promotes such control allows for spying, for deception of friends, for ostracism in one’s own community for thinking differently, for imprisonment without due process, for torture, even for extrajudicial executions. It is a total commitment to a cause that supersedes all others determined and dictated by an oligarchy in silence and subject to no legitimate institution and to no one (xxvi).
Atzmon elaborates on his contention that the Zionists intentionally manipulate Jewish separatism to their advantage by instilling a myth of persistent persecution against Jews as evidence of their need to support the Israeli enterprise, a virtual effort at ghetto building, and one that results in a form of Pre-Traumatic Stress Syndrome induced by a continual grand narrative of Israeli victimization caused by the Holocaust: being driven into the sea, being wiped off the map, delegitimized, all portend the impending disaster that awaits the Jewish state.

Such perception forces the Diaspora Jew to confront the significance of the promise and fulfillment of the Zionist dream, the return to Zion. “By bonding Eretz Yisrael and the Diaspora continuum, the Settler replaces the ‘negation of the Diaspora’ with a ‘negation of the Goyim’ (a return of the Jewish pre-Zionist condition).” This effectively stops the possibility of Jewish assimilation and promotes a return to tribal distinctiveness, albeit with political and global interests. Concomitantly, “It leaves the Diaspora Jew in limbo. He or she is neither assimilated into their surrounding social environment nor settled in a Jewish state” (43). Rejection then of the Zionist call must be understood as an act of treason or a form of self-hatred. Unfortunately, yet reflective of the symbolic nature of the legend of the Wandering Jew, “…it emphasizes the racist and expansionist Judeo-centric nature of the Jewish State. .. and the Diaspora Jew finds himself or herself intrinsically associated with a bigoted, ethnocentric ideology and an endless list of crimes against humanity” (43).

Chosen-ness determines its own end. What the Chosen believes through the books that give them their unique status must be truth. Since the words used are not theirs, but the words of their G-d, they are immune from the limitations of language (32). The Chosen need only respond to themselves to find identity, but in their affiliation with their group, not humanity at large. Atzmon notes that the religious understanding of Chosen-ness carries with it a moral burden to “stand as an exemplary model of ethical behavior,” but in the Zionist mind that has been “reduced to a crude, ethno-centric, blood-oriented chauvinism”… a kind of “tribal supremacism, in which ‘love yourself as much as you hate everyone else’ becomes a pragmatic reality” (86). Consequently, “This form of supremacy lies at the heart of the Zionist claim for Palestine, at the expense of its indigenous inhabitants” (87). Justice is not a consideration.

Perhaps the most insidious corruption imposed on the Jewish people and on their religion by the Zionists who garnered control of the new state of Israel was the manipulation of the Holocaust into both a religion and an industry. Norman Finkelstein covers the creation of the industry, Atzmon, with the help of Professor Yeshayahu Leibowitz, a Latvian-born philosopher at the Hebrew University, and Adi Ophir, an Israeli philosopher and Associate Professor at the Cohn Institute for the History and Philosophy of Science and Ideas at Tel Aviv University, takes on the description and the consequences of transforming the Holocaust into a religion. Leibowitz, according to Uri Avnery (19.3.05, “Remember What? Remember How?), stated that “The Jewish religion died 200 years ago. Now there is nothing that unifies the Jews around the world apart from the Holocaust.” Atzmon suggests that Lebowitz might have been the first to recognize that the Holocaust had been made into a religion with priests, prophets, commandments and dogmas, rituals and temples.
The Holocaust religion is, obviously, Judeo-centric to the bone. It defines the Jewish raison d’etre. For Zionist Jews, it signifies a total fatigue of the Diaspora, and regards the goy as a potential irrational murderer. This new Jewish religion preaches revenge. It could well be the most sinister religion known to man, for in the name of Jewish suffering, it issues licenses to kill, to flatten, to nuke, to annihilate, to loot, to ethnically cleanse. It has made vengeance into an acceptable Western value (127).
Let us return now to the wandering Jew of legend. In 1848, Nathaniel Hawthorne wrote “A Virtuoso’s Collection,” an exotic tale of the strange and fantastic that subsumes the legend in the personage of the Virtuoso.
Hawthorne uses the legend to capture that mystery of behaviour that has haunted writers for centuries, a mystery that still befuddles our scientists that search for an explanation for actions that seem devoid of “natural sympathies,” actions that elicit no response to human suffering, emotional or psychological, to physical pain and anguish, to loss of those loved, a child, a son or daughter, a father or mother, actions inflicted for no perceivable reason, where guilt has not been determined nor compassion considered. The legend captures the man that witnesses the suffering of the innocent, the Christ bearing His cross though guilty of nothing but the spirit of human compassion for his brothers and sisters, the sacrifice of atonement, yet mocks the innocent to “go on quicker,” for the Wanderer “is linked with the realities of this earth… to what I can see, and touch, and understand, and I ask for no more.” Nothing can stand in his way as he rushes through life acquiring all that this world can offer, and at any expense, regardless of his impact on others. “The soul is dead within him,” Hawthorne proclaims, the natural sympathy for his fellow humans does not exist.
Hawthorne grappled with this image of the lost soul, severed from the roots that carry all in the concept of humanity, where each is a brother or a sister to another and to all; where the teachings of the faiths that sustain humankind across the globe find love and compassion the fundamental life force that binds all and gives meaning to all; where mercy and kindness serve to heal and advance the commonweal; where the island that is this planet unites all humankind in bonds of necessary and never ending ties if there is to be a future for our children; this is the source of the human spirit that emanates from one all embracing soul that is the common experience of all that must endure the suffering and pain that is this life suffused and made endurable by the springs of love that give joy to the world. This is a concept that requires of all, sharing of all things, that each might survive despite the ravages of time and circumstance. It is the essence of all faiths that truly believe in the human spirit and the uncertainties that control our lives. It finds repulsive, as a consequence, those who seek to destroy the unity of spirit that binds all together in favour of personal gain, sought in the material acquisitions made possible in this world, regardless of the havoc wrought to achieve their ends.
The image of the Wandering Jew reflects that person who abandons his fellows for personal gain, who forfeits human love and compassion for the artefacts of this world gained at any expense, satisfied with the acquisition of wealth, of position, of power even when achieved by devastation and death since ultimately only he exists and all routes to his end are achieved. All humans are expendable and are, then, by definition inferior to the man free of moral or spiritual restraints.
The Wandering Jew is then, as metaphor, another rendering of the story of Cain who slew his brother, for which act he was cursed by God Almighty to wander the earth a fugitive…. The Wandering Jew, like Cain, is Everyman” (William A. Cook, “The Eternal Jew Goes on Forever,” 8/24/2009).
Gilad Atzmon brings us to this understanding as it applies in our day; he is our Hawthorne who journeys through our time to illuminate the consequences of actions that deny, indeed, that defy the oneness of humanity to benefit the few at the expense of the many. He writes a critical and devastating explanation of Jewishness as it has been manipulated to control the Jewish people and impose the will of the Zionist dictators in Israel and the U.S. on the American people through control of the U.S. Congress. He unravels the nuances that veil the arrogance, the deceit, and the hypocrisy of those in power, why they are so bound by terrorism and force, revealing in the process the horror of their betrayal and the emptiness of their words.

He comprehends Hawthorne’s description of the Virtuoso, the Wandering Jew, as it fittingly captures the mindset of those who impose a deterministic and amoral direction on political events both in the United Nations and the United States, “…there was a bitterness indefinably mingled with his tone, as of one cut off from natural sympathies, and blasted with a doom that had been inflicted on no other human being, and by the results of which he had ceased to be human. Yet…it seemed one of the most terrible consequences of that doom, that the victim no longer regarded it as a calamity, but had finally accepted it as the greatest good that could have befallen him.”

That frame of mind accepts no guilt because it has rejected personal conscience as the basis for actions in lieu of tribal security; the tribe alone determines right: individualism, natural rights, self-reliance, personal responsibility in a democracy no longer exists. This mindset, clustered in a functioning, global, tribal concentration of power, focuses on one voice, theirs. It denies democracy yet calls itself democratic; it speaks of universalism but protects only itself; it proclaims brotherhood with nations that exist by rule of law even as it defies all laws but its own; it presents itself as a nation imbued with the righteous morals of ancient times yet establishes policies that are apartheid in character.

To not defend this frame of mind is to damn self and the Jewishness that gives them an identity. It is in effect a self-inflicted torture; an incredibly powerful identity fabricated out of ancient tales that gives the most ordinary of them superiority over others who must be denigrated and even destroyed. It’s a tribal character, protection of the group at all cost or lose self in the multitudes with which one must live. It had a place in ancient days, but cannot exist in a world where 192 nations share covenants with each other based on equality, respect and human dignity.

To hold to their beliefs they must negate similarity and equity, as well as justice and freedom for all. Given the power they possess and the money they use to control the U.S. Congress and the British Parliament, with similar controls being exerted in Canada, Australia, France and Germany, as Atzmon graphically demonstrates, the dangers of an elite few dominating the direction of international policies threatens international security and the quest for peace.

This 21st century Jew, like Jeremiah of old, wanders the world warning of an impending doom hidden behind the mask of civility that is the Israeli state. The world meets this nation in the halls of the United Nations through its pin-striped representatives who speak fluently and even eloquently of rights, of democracy, of justice, of self-defense, and of terrorism that threatens the civilized world. Yet behind that mask of civility reside a nation and its fascist belligerent leaders whose sole purpose is to control the very organizations erected to bring equity and justice to all. Their purpose, to gain time to achieve their end, the creation of Eretz Yisrael through the continuing ethnic cleansing of the indigenous people. Gilad Atzmon fears this end for the Jews and defies the Zionists that preach it. The Wandering Who proclaims the choice; we are Everyman, one in soul, one in sympathy, one in respect and dignity for all humanity.

Gilad Atzmon: Rachel Corrie and the Kosher Legal Stamp

Gilad Atzmon

Judge Oded Gershon’s ruling earlier this week that the state of Israel is not to blame for the death of Rachel Corrie, came as no surprise. In fact it reaffirms everything we know about the Jewish state - its politics, legal system and spirit. Israel is surely a most peculiar state - it is impervious to ethical thinking and humanist thought.

Accordingly, Judge Gershon gave this week a kosher stamp to a cold-blooded murder and by so doing, he proved, once again, that Israeli criminal actions are consistent with the most vile interpretations of Old Testament and Talmudic Goy-hating.

As one would predict, Judge Gershon, restricted himself to legalism and litigation as opposed to ethical thinking - he actually blamed Corrie for not ‘behaving reasonably’. Yet, one may wonder what is this ‘reason’ or more precisely, what does an Israeli mean when he or she refers to ‘reason’.

Rachel Corrie was bulldozed to death by an Israeli military D9 Caterpillar on 16 March 2003. She was part of ISM (International Solidarity Movement), a non-violent pro-Palestinian peace activist group. Being an American youngster, Corrie mistakenly believed that Israeli soldiers were humanly driven. Being a reasonable person she must have believed that an Israeli bulldozer driver would never drive over her body. She was wrong. Corrie clearly failed to grasp that Israeli ‘reasoning’ was lethally fuelled by psychosis and fantasies of destruction.

Corrie failed precisely where so many solidarity activists fail. Israel is no normal state. It is a state of one people only - and a people who believe themselves to be chosen. The meaning of this is both simple and devastating. The people of Israel believe that their lives and security is a cosmic asset that must be maintained at the expense of the rest of humanity. However, make no mistake, Israeli psychosis is consistent and even driven by reason, but this ‘reason’ is somewhat different to that of the rest of us. It is certainly far from being universal.

Rachel Corrie, on the other hand, is a universal symbol. She is the epitome of solidarity, empathic thinking and courage, but her tragic death is also a clear indication that something is fundamentally wrong with Israel. Rachel Corrie’s death makes it clear that it isn’t just the Israeli leadership or military elite who are blind to human life and moral conduct.  It isn’t just Netanyahu or Barak who are in a state of dismissal of human life.  We are dealing here with a murderous continuum; it is the leadership, the anonymous soldier, the bulldozer driver – and also Judge Gershon and the Israeli legal system.

Israel could have used Corrie’s family legal appeal to mend its ways. But Judge Gershon was actually honest enough to admit that the murder of Rachel Corrie was the ‘right thing to do’. It was her fault, she shouldn’t have been there in the first place, he said. Judge Gershon provided us this week with the true meaning of ‘Israeli reasoning’. The murder of Corrie was consistent with Israeli survival philosophy and with Israeli interpretation of Jewish statehood. This week, Judge Gershon left us with a kosher stamp for a cold-blooded murder.

Rabbi Ovadia declares ‘jihad’ on Iran

On August 18, 2012, Israel’s former Chief Rabbi Ovadia Yosef 91, in his weekly Talmud lecture broadcast on Israeli radio said: “A second Haman, also from Persia, intends to do evil to us“. He was referring to Jewish holiday of Purim; when Persian Jewish Queen Esther tricked her husband to give permission to the Jewish community to murder 75,000 innocent Persians.

During last Saturday sermon, Ovadia, said:
When we say the blessing over the dates at our Rosh Hashana meal this year, and we ask G-d to ‘bring an end to our enemies,’ we should be thinking about Iran, those evil ones who threaten Israel. May the Lord destroy them“.
It seems, like Netanyahu and Barak – Rabbi has also got frustrated by Obama’s hesitation to invade Iran. His tone during the last two sermons has drastically changed from his February sermon when he said:

Don’t attack Iran. Learn Talmud and G-d will save the people of Israel and send Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to hell. In every generation, there are those who tried to destroy us and HaShem (G-d) saved us. Now, there is a tyrant in Iran, perhaps a reincarnation of Haman. We have no one to rely on except our (revengeful) G-d in Heaven”.

Some Israeli sources have interpreted Rabbi Ovadia Josep’s latest anti-Ahmadinejad outbursts as a green-light for Netanyahu-Barak to wage ‘Jewish jihad’ against the Islamic Republic.

Rabbi Ovadia Josep is the spiritual leader of Shas party which has two ministers, Eli Yishai and Ariel Attias, in Netanyahu’s cabinet. Israeli daily, Ha’aretz’s political analyst Yossi Verter has reported that both Eli Yishai and Ariel Attias along with four other ministers Yishai, Dan Meridor, Benny Begin and Moshe Ya’alon – are against Netanyahu-Barak plan to attack Iran alone. It’s expected that Avigdor Lieberman and Yuval Steinitz will support Netanyahu-Barak plan.

So, even if Eli Yishai and Ariel Attias drop their opposition to Netanyahu-Barak plan to please their Guru Ovadia – the fact remain that a majority Israeli public is against war with Iran – plus Israeli Generals have voiced their opposition to war with Iran.

In August 2010 sermon, Rabbi Ovadia said: “Abu Mazen and all these (Palestinian) evil people should perish from this world“.

In April 2001 sermon, Rabbi Ovadia said: “It is forbidden to be merciful to them. You must send missiles to them and annihilate them. They are evil and damnable. May the Holy Name visit retribution on the heads of the Arabs and cause their seed to be lost“.

Last year several Zionist Jewish groups celebrated Purim by holding a Megillah (Megillat Esther in Hebrew) reading at the Iranian UN Mission in Manhattan, New York.

Who will be stupid enough to have dialogue with such evil and racist leaders?

The Face of Hate in Israel – Is it Real or Just for Show?

Bible Tearing all looks like Hollywood Theatrics to Me

“My response was timely and appropriate…All the Knesset members should have thrown it in their trash bins.” …MK Michael Ben-Ari

…by  Jim W. Dean, VT Editor

National Union MK Michael Ben-Ari

The Knesset had a dust up last month. Some ‘full of themselves’ Christian missionaries decided to stuff Knesste MK member mail boxes with copies of the New Testament, despite knowing that that would be seen as a provocative act by the radical Ultra Orthodox MP’s.

Their head cheerleader, National Union MK Michael Ben-Ari, knowing the missionaries were pulling a publicity stunt to keep their donations flowing, decided to piggyback his own publicity stunt to keep his donations flowing, also.

He tore up his New Testament copy in front of cameras knowing that the media to make a big stink over it, and they did.

Enter stage left, the American Anti-Defamation League which should be renamed THE Defamation League as that is their primary function for the Israeli/Jewish Lobby here.

The ADL called on Ben-Ari to apologize. Sure!! If only they could have held their breath and waited for this to happen, we would be rid of the ADL, one of America’s premier hate groups, along with AIPAC and the SPLC.
From The Times of Israel:
[Knesset Speaker Reuven] Rivlin decried Ben-Ari’s act, saying all religious books had to be respected. “Holy scriptures are important to their believers,” he said.

What would the Jewish reaction be if a parliament member from another country burned the Torah, Rivlin inquired. Democracy includes the freedom of expression, “but not the freedom of offending believers of other faiths,” he said. “Freedom of religion is a cornerstone of this country.”
All this make believe is a sad charade. The Israelis have desecrated Christian and Muslim symbols and places of worship for decades, all part of their ethnic cleansing program, making life unbearable for them. Some of the worst individuals are punished now and then, but the political Ultra Orthodox have nothing to fear from their government.
Most Israels hate them, not for what they do to the Palestinians, but because they will not work and put their huge families on forever welfare. Wherever they live they insist that working Jews should fund all community services because (try to guess this)…they are working and therefore should pay taxes.
Aren’t we all just dying to have a bunch of neighbors like this, and spitters, too. Actually we already do have some. In New Jersey these welfare Orthodox demanded not only new housing, but big square footage and two kitchens. And yes, this housing is closed to all but you know who.

Latin Patriarch Michel Sabbah of Jerusalem – Now retired
Holyland Christians used to be 20% of the population. They are down to 2% now. My source on this was Latin Patriarch Michel Sabbah of Jerusalem when I interviewed him here in Atlanta years ago.  And I must say he is one of the most impressive people I have met.

Some Israeli Ultra Orthodox Jews have a thing for spitting on Christian clerics they cross paths with, spitting on the large crosses they wear, which they find offensive. Some even rough up the priests, and spit in contempt when they pass a Christian cemetery.

No, you have never heard about any of this in the American press, and you never will. It might slowdown the cash pipeline from the Christian Zionist over here who are huge funders for the Israeli oppression of Muslim and Christian Palestinians alike.

Such reporting is not allowed here, very actively ‘discouraged’ as harmful to one’s career. I call this ‘spitting on your career’, and they do from time to time to make an example.

Personally, I consider the Christian Zios not only a threat to Christianity, but a national security threat to America…a two for one deal that they don’t even charge extra for.

Have You Ever Seen a Synagogue Shoot Up Like This?

I edited my first documentary TV show on the Siege of the Church of the Nativity some years ago. A Palestinian priest, Father Labib from California, had spent his personal savings to get the interview footage and obtain some of the actual combat footage, including the dramatic night shooting. If there is reader interest I will make another run of DVDs.

During one of the punishment sweeps of Bethlehem, some of the locals caught out on the streets, including policemen, ran for safety and refuge in the Church as they new from past experience that the IDF pumped up troops could shoot them on sight.
The church bell ringer, a deaf man, was oblivious to what was happening as he walked to work as usual. But as he took a step through the doorway he took a bullet in the back, the first to die during the siege.

Lot’s of flares were used to try to set the church’s
wooden roof on fire, an early Christmas present
from the IDF
This one hour show had incredible footage of the Israelis shooting up the church at night to keep those inside from sleeping.

The also wanted to have those with guns on the inside, policeman and a handful of wanted local militia men to shoot back and use up their ammo prior to the IDF raiding the complex.

The Pals were too smart for that as they were saving their ammo for when the commandos came.

As part of the raid preparation the IDF tried to kill as many of those inside as they could. Snipers picked off kids trying to pick leaves off the lemon trees and grass in the courtyards.

Father Faltas told how a sniper just missed shooting him in his room through an open window where he would have been clearly visible through the scope as a priest. The Israelis waited almost a week before they would allow the dead to be taken out, wanting those inside to enjoy the stink as long as possible.

At night crane mounted machine guns fired down through the old wooden roof, bouncing bullets around on the inside trying to get some lucky hits. And they fired continuous flares night after night hoping to get some on the roof and set it ablaze, accidentally of course.
The commando raid did finally come one night. But the Palestinians inside had anticipated where their weak spot was and had been waiting in ambush each night. They caught the commandos my surprise and wounded several, forcing the others back.
But they had the presence of mind not to finish them off. They knew the Israelis would be coming back to get them so they retreated a few rooms back. When the rescue mission did come, the first thing they did is set fire to one of the rooms as a screen for pulling their wounded back.

I included an audio interview  with the top Vatican diplomat who was involved in the negotiations at the time who described it all in detail. As always, none of this was covered by American media…nor probably will this New Testament tearing up. The skinny dipping Dead Sea Congressman will have to last us for a while.

Let’s go back to the Times for some more theater:

Abe Foxman – of the Defamation League
“As Jews, we expect others to treat our holy books with respect and understanding,” said Abraham H. Foxman, the ADL’s national director. “We should likewise show respect for the holy books of other faiths.”

Foxman said that “a member of parliament and a representative of the State of Israel ” was even more obligated than the average person to act with respect. ”His actions run counter to Jewish values and the standards of Israel’s democratic society,” Foxman said.

Ben-Ari told the Hebrew news site NRG that he had been compelled to take action because Rivlin was silent on the matter.

Those who sent the books wanted “to trample the bodies of millions of people killed for being Jewish,” Ben-Ari said. Rivlin needs to stop trying to appease missionaries, he added.

“My response was timely and appropriate,” the right-wing legislator said. “All the Knesset members should have thrown it in their trash bins.”

A response sent from Ben-Ari’s office to the Hebrew news website NRG called the ADL a hypocritical body. “We didn’t hear the organization speak out against the burning of synagogues and desecration of Jewish graves,” it said.

“Ben-Ari will continue to safeguard Israel’s honor, along with the honor of all those who were murdered for being Jewish,” the statement said.

Government spokesman Mark Regev told AP, “We totally deplore this behavior and condemn it outright. This action stands in complete contrast to our values and our traditions. Israel is a tolerant society, but we have zero tolerance for this despicable and hateful act.”

Most Christians have no idea what really happened here
Can we all give up our survival activism now that good old Abe Foxman is defending the New Testament? If we look into the ADL press releases on the attack on the Church of the Nativity do you think we will find outrage?

We know of a book coming out soon which might spread some light why the ADL and the Israelis are putting on this religious tolerance charade in the land for Jews only.

We will be writing about it very quickly when it comes out as it will be making earth shattering revelations.

Does Wikipedia claim all the church people and civilians were hostages of the ‘gun men’, when all of those people were on record in denying that they were? Was the Knesset at the time outraged? Were they during the Gaza and last Lebanon incursions?

No, they weren’t. And neither was the ADL  This is all for show, a cheap publicity stunt, a chance for Abe Foxman to justify the hall million salary he is milking out of the ADL, which many members by the ways do not approve of the huge salaries paid.

No government can be formed in Israel’s fractured political stew without the radical Ultra Orthodox Israelis getting their free ride…no work, no taxes, and the moral judges of all.
When trying to get control of the government, the new bunch of thieves replacing those leaving would let the Orthos burn a mountain of New Testaments. Sheldon Adelson would even pay for them.

Rabbi Ovadia Yosef bashes Israeli legal system, calling it ‘court of gentiles’

Shas’ spiritual leader cites acceptance of testimony from women and overturning of Tal Law as evidence that Israeli judges ‘hate the Torah.'

During his weekly lesson on Saturday night, Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, Shas Party spiritual leader, harshly criticized the Israeli justice system, labeling it a “court of gentiles,” using a Talmudic term. Rabbi Yosef stated that according to Jewish law, judges presiding over Israeli courts should not be allowed to be witnesses at Jewish marriage ceremonies, implicating religiously observant judges as well.

Rabbi Yosef has bashed the Israeli justice system numerous times in the past, from a halakhic standpoint. This time, however, he went as far as labeling judges “wicked,” “incompetent witnesses,” and stating that they should not be allowed to lead synagogue prayers.

To support his assertion Rabbi Yosef referenced the High Court’s move to overturn the Tal Law, which largely exempted ultra-Orthodox men from conscription in the Israel Defense Forces, and claimed that the Israeli court judges “hate the Torah.”

“Whoever presides over a court of gentiles, and judges using the laws of gentiles, gives up the Torah of Moses, and is called wicked,” said Rabbi Yosef on Saturday night. “They judge according to the laws of the nations, not the Torah. They accept testimony from women. This is against the Torah,” continued Rabbi Yosef.

Rabbi Yosef related an incident presented to him, in which a couple married with an Israel court judge as a witness. Rabbi Yosef ordered them “to marry again, with a different ketubah. That ketubah is invalid. Why? He [the witness] is wicked, and incompetent to testify. It must be known.”

“They hate the torah, so they are incompetent as witnesses. There is no doubt. Any judge that presides over a secular court is invalid as a witness. They must not be used to witness matrimony, to sign the ketubah. It is forbidden,” said Rabbi Yossef. He went on to call such a marriage invalid, likening it to living in sin with a  prostitute.

It was noted that the panel of Supreme Court judges that overturned the Tal Law contained religiously observant judges. Supreme Court Justice Elyakim Rubinstein, who was central to the majority decision to overturn the law, included numerous texts from traditional Jewish texts in his written ruling.

According to Rabbi Yosef, “A fitting witness is a kosher person, a righteous, God-fearing person, an observant person, is an appropriate witness. Matrimony is a very serious thing. First and foremost a witness should be a serious, appropriate person.”

The Selective Morality of ‘Anti-Zionist’ Zionists

by Martin Iqbal.

The selective morality of ‘anti-Zionist’ Zionists (self-professed anti-Zionists who harbour certain Zionist viewpoints) says that Palestinians must languish in refugee camps merely because it would be ‘immoral’ to re-settle Israelis who live on stolen land. This is all while Israel proves its capability to resettle its own citizens when it colonises vast swathes of the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

No matter how long we may debate the question of Palestine, the history is unequivocal. Palestine was stolen by colonists who invaded from foreign lands and settled under the shadow of a gun.

Palestine was partitioned by the UN (which had only just been established) – a party which had zero legitimacy and zero right to meddle in these foreign lands. Only native Palestinians (Muslim, Christian, Arab, Jew, or otherwise) had the right to partition Palestine (those who settled in Palestine as part of the Zionist project don’t count as natives by the way), but they were not consulted.

This writer has recently spent time working with Israeli ‘anti-Zionists’ taking part in activism in solidarity with Palestinians in Occupied Palestine. Opposition to enacting the Right of Return is prevalent in these ‘anti-Zionist’ circles, making them decidedly Zionist, regardless of their protestations to the contrary. The most common argument is that it would be immoral to enact the Right of Return because this would mean re-settling Israelis. Why would this be immoral? Because a certain amount of time has elapsed since their forefathers stole the land? Because there are generations of people living on the land who did not cause this conflict?

Well you see, this is the precise argument that Israel relies on vis-a-vis the illegal settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem – for in this respect these are no different to the ethnically cleansed villages & towns in pre-48 Palestine (‘Israel’). Israel relies on this selective morality which will eventually say “we can’t resettle the (West Bank) illegal settlers because they’ve been there too long and it would be immoral”.

Well you know what? There are generations of people – millions of Palestinian refugees – who are forced to languish in refugee camps all over the Middle East and the world. They did not cause this conflict, and neither did their forefathers. They’ve been suffering for decades, since the advent of the Zionist project – long before ‘Israel’ was even established. Is it not immoral to keep them there while their homeland is stolen, ethnically cleansed and Judaised?

If Israel can relentlessly settle its people in the West Bank in their hundreds of thousands, then it has the resources and capability (if maybe not the willingness) to re-settle for the purposes of achieving right of return. I don’t claim that this is immediately practical or realistic, but justice isn’t easy, and if it were, we wouldn’t be in this situation. Those who support two states because it is ‘practical’ or ‘realistic’ are betraying justice for Palestine – they have no interest in real justice, only political expediency (and perhaps in the case of many Israelis, they don’t want to give up their land & position of privilege, regardless of whether they admit this).

The Disintegration of The Jewish State Has Begun

By Gilad Atzmon

Israeli Generals expressed dismay yesterday over a violent assault on a senior Air Force officer perpetrated by a gang of soldiers.

Ynet reported yesterday that Maj. A., deputy commander of a squadron at the northern Ramat David Airbase was attacked near his home within the airbase.

An Israeli military source confirmed yesterday that three soldiers, who serve in a technical support unit, assaulted the officer over the weekend after he issued a complaint over their reckless driving on base premises, in violation of strict military regulations.

The three soldiers, apparently outraged by the pilot’s decision to lodge a complaint with their commanding officer, initially threatened to kill him in the presence of his children. They later attacked him outside his home, located on base, with wooden clubs until he nearly lost consciousness.

Ynet reported that Israeli army elite are in shock. “No one can believe that soldiers dared to strike a senior officer”
According to Global Times Senior IAF officers have previously complained about having to deal with soldiers from harsh socioeconomic backgrounds. “With all due respect to the notion of the people’s army, my feeling is that the balance has been violated.”
Earlier this week we learned about an Israeli who set himself on fire during Tel Aviv social protest. Israel, so it seems, is on the verge of disintegration. The images of social protests and violence towards top commanders within the military are clear signs of collapse of the Israeli national, cultural and ideological bond.

It is not the Palestinians or the BDS who are going to bring down the Jewish State, it is actually the Israelis themselves. It is the supremacist and chauvinist ideology embedded within the Israeli philosophy and culture that make the Jewish State into an unbearable concept for its citizens let alone the indigenous people of the land i.e. the Palestinians.

Israel and ‘Jewish identity’: The search goes on!

After learning the true nature of the state of Israel hiding behind the ‘Jewish facade’ – more and more Jewish intellectuals are searching for their ‘Jewish identity’. Rabbi Michael Lerner (Beyt Tikkun synagogue in Berkeley), Gilad Atzmon, Roger Tucker, Israel Shamir, Hilda Silverman and Professor Richard Falk being among them. Incidently, all of them have earned the title of ‘Self-Hating, Israel-Threatening (S.H.I.T)‘ Jews from Israel lobby groups.

Rabbi Michael Lerner, the editor of Tikkun Magazine, is torn between his ‘Jewish conscience’ and his loyalty to the state of Israel. The Rabbi explained the difference in his feelings about Israelis compared to his feelings about Palestinians by saying:
On the one side is my family; on the other side are decent human beings. I want to support human beings all over the planet but I have a special connection to my family“.

Unlike Rabbi Lerner, Roger Tucker doesn’t show his dual allegiance when it comes to Jewishness vs state of Israel.

Semite is a linguistic term denoting peoples who spoke Semitic languages. Israelis are not Semites in spite of the fact that they speak Hebrew (it’s an adopted language of far too recent a vintage). The Zionists who created Israel and still run it are descended from the Khazars, linguistically a “Turko-finnic” people. The vast majority of Semites speak Arabic as their native language, making tribal Jewry, particularly the Israelis, the only people in the world who are truly “anti-Semitic” – and they’re virulently anti-Semitic,says Tucker.

Gilad Atzmon who was born into a prominent Israeli Zionist family – even gets angry when called “an Israeli Jew”. He offers a perfect example of how ex-Zionist Israeli Jews can liberate themselves from the shackles of a brutal, abusive, and ultimately doomed idealogy and identity. Gilad Atzmon has been subject of several of my posts.

Israel Shamir in disgust has said goodbye to both Judaism and Israel. Eleven years ago, Israel Shamir wrote:

Israel is disgusting to the Arabs, the French, the English, even to herself. The red-hot intifada is the fiery river, into which melts and sinks to the bottom another myth of the 20th century – the theory of Zionism. According to designs of Herzl and Jabotinsky, a small geopolitical monstrosity was created on Arab lands. Its settlers have imposed on America and Germany the annual tribute of five billions dollars. They pour napalm on the mosques and transform whole nations into homeless refugees. They brainwash the whole world by their ashes of Auschwitz”.

Hilda Silverman (d. 2008), a human-rights activist believed that Jewishness was absolutely not a bar to criticizing Israel, in fact her Jewishness compelled her to do so. She met Yasar Arafat in the 1980s and even wrote a poem in memory of Rachel Corrie who has been named Mother Teresa for Islamists by Dr. Steven Plaut (Haifa University).

Professor Richard Falk, international jurist and UN Special Rapporteur for Occupied Palestinian Territories also wrote on his Jewish identity in January 2011.

As someone who is both Jewish and supportive of the Palestinian struggle for a just and sustainable peace, I am often asked about my identity. The harshest critics of my understanding of the Israel-Palestine conflict contend that I am a self-hating Jew, which implies that sharp criticism of Israel and Zionism are somehow incompatible with affirming a Jewish identity. Of course, I deny this. For me to be Jewish is, above all, to be preoccupied with overcoming injustice and thirsting for justice in the world, and that means being respectful toward other peoples regardless of their nationality or religion, and empathetic in the face of human suffering whoever and wherever victimization is encountered,” says Dr. Falk.

In Israel: “Textbook Warns, Associating With Arabs Is Dangerous”

by Saed Bannoura

Arab Member of Israeli Knesset, Hanin Zoabi, sent a letter to the Legal Councilor in the country demanding him to order an investigation into a study guide for the Israeli “Bagrut” (the Civics Matriculation exam) stating that Jewish girls associating with Arab youths undermine their security and their right to life.

Zoabi demanded the Legal Councilor to take a firm legal action against those responsible for the preparation of the textbooks for the Civics Matriculation, as these textbooks contain racist language and assumptions, inciting the Jewish students against the Palestinians for their national affiliation.

The letter came after Israeli daily, Haaretz, reported that the “Rekhes” company, specialized in preparing the supplementary materials for the Bagrut exam, published a study guide that contains a question about the stances of the students regarding Rabbis who instructed young Jewish girls to stay away from Arab youths, and one of the answers was that “Arab youths pose a threat to the lives of Jewish girls”, and that “relationships between male Arab youths and female Jewish youths pose a threat to the Jewish majority in the country”.

MK Zoabi said that the Rekhes Company is not the only party that is responsible for this outrageous racism, as the Ministry of Education is solely responsible for monitoring and supervising all textbooks, but failed to stop the publication of this racist material.

She said that the ministry must boost the morality of the students, and must act on developing their values of democracy, equality and citizenship, “but instead, it is burying these principles, either by publishing materials that deny the very existence of the Palestinians, or by issuing publications that incite against the Palestinians, and call for treating them with animosity, hatred and racism”.

The Arab MK demanded the Legal Councilor to initiate a serious and prompt investigation into the issue, and to indict those responsible for these racist statements in the textbooks.

In December of 2010, dozens of top Israeli rabbis signed on to a new religious ruling that would call on Jews not to rent homes to Arabs.

The religious ruling was made a few months after a call signed by a group of 18 prominent rabbis, including the chief rabbi of Safad, urging Jews to not rent or sell property to non-Jews.

Amongst those who signed on to the new ruling are the chief rabbis of Ramat Hasharon, Ashdod, Kiryat Gat, Rishon Letzion, Carmiel, Gadera, Afula, Nahariya, Herzliya, Nahariya and Pardes Hannah, and other cities.

Most of the signatories are from Safad, a city with an increasing number of Arab students enrolled at the town's local college. The chief rabbi of Safad, Shmuel Eliyahu, was the most prominent one to sign the call, has been criticized in the past for his inflammatory remarks against the Arab population.

Last year, the Israeli Knesset passed the so-called “Nakba Law” preventing the Palestinians in the country from marking the Nakba day (the day Israel celebrates its independence after destroying hundreds of Palestinian towns and villages), and authorizing the Minister of Finance to cut, withhold, or reduce funding to government institutions that mark the Nakba day, under the pretext of “denying the existence of Israel”.

The law was supported by 37 votes, while 25 opposed it; the “Law” further states that “any government funded body in the country, and any public institute that marks the Nakba will be barred from funding as”, according to the law, “by marking Nabka, these intuitions negate the existence of Israel as a state of the Jewish People”.

The law that passed by the Knesset was considered a “more moderate version” of the original law that was approved by the Ministerial Committee for Legislation in 2009.

Race Riots in Tel Aviv

The consequences of immigration, both legal and illegal, has become a serious issue in many countries and worthy of discussion.  But somehow, in this case, anti-immigration sentiment arising from Israeli racism cannot be mentioned lest it somehow tarnish the legitimacy of the Jewish state.

by Philip Giraldi

Scott McConnell has observedthe European and alternative media coverage of Wednesday’s race riots in Israel directed against African immigrants and wondered if the press in the US is reporting what took place.  Well, the short answer is “no.”  The New York Times and the Washington Post have avoided the subject as has NPR and the Los Angeles Times.

Using Google and also going to individual media websites, I could not find any reference to the riots in any mainstream publication nor on any news television channel.  The best coverage in the English language media was in Britain’s The Guardian, which described how African immigrants and asylum seekers were attacked by an angry crowd in Tel Aviv, leading to a number of injuries, widespread vandalism, and seventeen arrests.  Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu helped trigger the confrontation last Sunday when he described “illegal infiltrators” who were “flooding the country” and threatening both Israel’s security and its identity as a Jewish state. The actual violence on the streets may have been sparked by an Israeli parliamentarian telling the crowd that the Africans were a “cancer in our body.”  The Israeli newspaper Maariv called what followed an “unbridled rampage.”

English language newspapers in Israel, including Haaretz, did cover the story, which was also picked up by Jewish media in the US.  A number of American Jewish organizations expressed their disapproval of the violence while also noting the legitimate concerns over rising crime and lawlessness.  Abe Foxman of the Anti-Defamation League expressed his concern at the “lawlessness and violence committed by and directed against the immigrants” and then three times more noted that the lawless and violent immigrants were creating security problems for Israelis.  He also praised Netanyahu’s “condemnation of the inflammatory comments and the violence…,” not mentioning that it was Netanyahu who had initially given support to the protesters.

Steve Sailer has noted that Foxman is a lot tougher on immigrants in Israel than he is on their counterparts in the US.  In May 2010 he referred to Arizona’s illegal immigrant legislation as an example of “nativism” and “bigotry,” manifestly “mean spirited” and xenophobic.

The media underreporting of any unpleasant news coming out of Israel is a long standing American journalistic tradition.  Friends of Israel would and frequently do argue that Israel is being held to a higher standard than any of its neighbors and is subject to unfair criticism.  But the problem is not that Israel is held to a higher standard than its neighbors.   The reality is that it is all too often not held to any standard at all by most of the US media and congress.  The consequences of immigration, both legal and illegal, has become a serious issue in many countries and worthy of discussion.  But somehow, in this case, anti-immigration sentiment arising from Israeli racism cannot be mentioned lest it somehow tarnish the legitimacy of the Jewish state.
