A report issued by the Ministry of Prisoners Affaires said that the number of Mentally ill prisoners raised in the occupation jails day after day and they were neglected and didn't receive the necessary health care and there were no clinics or counselors for the mental health in the occupation jails.
The report pointed out that the mentally ill prisoners had been placed in solitary confinement cell and this leads to aggravation of their illness.
Moreover, the report revealed that these illnesses had resulted from many reasons, most notably, the attack on the prisoners and the use of humiliating methods during the interrogation, in addition to the inability of the prisoners to withstand the stress resulted from the abuse of the prisons authorities, depriving the prisoners form their families visits and create a terrifying atmosphere in the prisons.
The report explained the case of the Palestinian prisoner, Karam Soliman, 35 years old, resident in Balata refugee camp, who is detained in Megiddo Prison and suffering from schizophrenia and he doesn't know what is going on around him and doesn't remember his date of birth and his place of residence.
The report pointed out that the prisoner, Omar Ahmed Al-Atrash, resident in Dora – Hebron, detained since 2/3/2012, was suffering from mental illness and receiving the treatment abroad before being detained. In addition, the case of the prisoner, Jihad Abu Haniyeh from Tulkarem, who had been battered over the head in 2007 and he had lost his memory.
It is worth mentioning that the number of mentally ill prisoners has arrived to 30.
